Most front-load washers have a pump filter (usually behind a small panel at the bottom front) that catches lint, coins, and debris. A clogged filter is the #1 cause of drainage failure. Check yours every 2–3 months. To clean it: place a towel down, open the panel, slowly unscrew the filter, and let the water drain before removing it completely.
2. Kinked or Clogged Drain Hose
The drain hose runs from the back of your washer to the drain standpipe or utility sink. Pull the washer out and check for kinks. If it’s clear of kinks, disconnect it and check for blockages — socks and small items frequently get lodged here.
3. Failed Lid Switch (Top-Load Washers)
Top-load washers have a lid switch that prevents operation when the lid is open. If this switch fails, the washer may complete the wash cycle but skip draining and spinning. You’ll hear the timer advancing but no drain action.
